SARAH

SARAH is a video performance that explores unauthorized grief, also called silent or forbidden grief: the kind that we ourselves, our surroundings, or society force us not to express as we would need to.

The work presents a frozen heart, a symbol of the human capacity to repress emotions in order to make decisions from reason. As the heart thaws, the contained pain is revealed—the one that emerges with time.

The piece was filmed at dawn on Cerro El Chupón, Monterrey, Mexico, in a single 60-minute take, later edited into a six-minute video.

SARAH was part of the 4th State Prize for Art of Nuevo León, 2024. It was also featured at the UNDOXX Performance Festival in New York, 2024.
